All the "David" stuff...

The basics...

  • Origin - Greek and English.  Born in Indiana.
  • Youngest of three kids.   My brother, Gregory is 5½ years older than me and my sister, Diane is 18 years older than me.

Sadly my brother Gregory passed away recently (September 23, 2009) at the too young age of 55

  • Age - 50 (YIKES!).
  • Height - 6'
  • Weight - I'd really rather not say right now!
  • My Job - Since 1979 I've worked in electronics as everything from a technician to developer to engineer as I got more education.
  • I currently work as a Software Engineer.

The very best things in life...

  • At the top of this list has to be my one time girlfriend, one time fiancée, as of June 13, 2004 my wife, Susan.
  • It's not very popular these days to list your father as your hero but I have to do just that.
The absolute finest person I've ever known in every way.  He passed on February 1, 2004, a week before his 82nd birthday, but I take great comfort and pleasure in having been lucky enough to have known him as well as I did.
  • The day to day evidence of the Lord watching over me.  I know it's not Politically Correct but that's okay, the truth generally isn't.
  • My family.
  • Being out on my bike on a sunny day on the Lake Michigan lakefront or a tree shaded bike path for a nice long ride.
  • Southern England in the spring.
  • Back yard cook outs.
  • Live theatre.
  • Cats.

Totally useless facts...

  • I play the guitar...I play around with the piano.
  • When I was younger I played the drums in two different marching bands, one in high school and one at church (gospel march band).
  • My favorite sports to participate in are bicycling, swimming, bicycling, golf, bicycling, and softball.  My favorite sports to watch...um... well...I don't actually like to watch sports.
  • In December of 2000 I had Laser Eye Surgery.  I went from about 20/750 to better than 20/25.  You can read about it on my "Dr. My Eyes page.

Boring, education stuff...
  • My first experience with college was in 1979 when I started toward a 2 year certificate in electronics.
  • Throughout the '80's I got about 10 or so (I lost track) different certifications in electronics and optics.
  • In 1991 I got my AAS degree in electrical engineering.
  • A couple of years later I started toward my BSEET in electrical engineering
  • I changed my tract to computer science in 1998 and completed my BSCS in December of 2003, or so I thought.  In January of 2004 I received a letter from Northeastern Illinois University telling me that I still owed a Mathematics credit so my actual graduation date wasn't until May of 2004...or so I thought. I finally called to find our why I hadn't received my diploma and was told that no graduation request was made.  So, although my work was completed earlier, my "official" date of graduation is August of 2004. Oh well, I guess you can't expect much more from an educational institution who hangs their fire extinguishers in locked cabinets in the halls.
  • Taught myself  HTML
  • Taught myself  JavaScript
  • Taught myself  CSS and COBOL
  • I took and passed the first part of the A+ exam and am considering taking the last part of the exam soon.
  • Got more certifications in C, C++, VB6, Acrobat, and working on a couple more
